Pool Science & Tips
🧪 Chlorine: The Backbone of Pool Sanitation
💡 Why We Use Chlorine
Chlorine is the go to disinfectant for pools because:
It kills bacteria, viruses, and algae that thrive in warm water environments.
It oxidizes organic contaminants like sweat, sunscreen, leaves, and insects.
It prevents recreational water illnesses (RWIs), including E. coli and crypto.
It’s cost-effective and widely available, with predictable reaction behavior.
It’s not just a chemical it’s your pool’s immune system!
🔄 Chlorine Usage in Practice
A standard weekly visit may require boosting FC by 1–3 ppm, depending on test results.
Tablets (trichlor) provide slow, long-term dosing; liquid chlorine gives quick boosts.
Cyanuric acid (stabilizer) is used to protect chlorine from UV burn off, especially important in Lake Havasu's intense sun.
☀️ Note: High water temperatures especially during summer can cause chlorine tablets to dissolve faster than usual. This means chlorine may be depleted more quickly, so consistent testing and adjustments are crucial to maintain safe swimming conditions.
Extra sun and frequent use burn through chlorine faster, so we monitor levels weekly to keep things balanced and swim-ready.
🌡️ Is Muriatic Acid Safe for My Pool?
Yes when used correctly. Our Certified Pool Operators apply it per industry standards and manufacturer guidelines. It’s one of the most reliable tools we use to keep your pool healthy.
🧬 How Chlorine Works
Free Chlorine (FC): The active sanitizer that neutralizes contaminants.
Combined Chlorine (CC): Formed when FC reacts with waste it’s less effective and causes odor/irritation.
Total Chlorine (TC): FC + CC, gives you a full picture of sanitizer levels.
When FC drops too low, the pool becomes vulnerable to cloudy water, algae blooms, and unsafe swimming conditions.
📊 How Much Chlorine Should Be in a Pool?
To keep your water clean and safe, we aim for chlorine levels between 1 to 3 parts per million (ppm) that’s the sweet spot for most residential pools.
Think of it like this:
1 ppm = enough to start killing germs
2–3 ppm = strong enough to keep your pool healthy, even on hot and busy swim days
Extra sun or frequent use burns through chlorine faster, so we monitor levels weekly to keep things balanced and swim ready.
🌡️ Is Muriatic Acid Safe for My Pool?
Yes when used correctly. Our Certified Pool Operators apply it per industry standards and manufacturer guidelines. It’s one of the most reliable tools we use to keep your pool healthy.
🧪 What Is Muriatic Acid and Why Do You Use It?
Muriatic acid is a powerful liquid used in pool care to help maintain balanced water chemistry, especially pH and alkalinity. It’s a diluted form of hydrochloric acid and perfectly safe when handled by trained professionals.
Here’s what it does:
Lowers high pH levels, helping chlorine work effectively and preventing scaling
Controls alkalinity, which keeps water from becoming corrosive or cloudy
Prevents calcium buildup on tile, plaster, and equipment
Proper balance of pH and alkalinity means:
Softer-feeling water
Better chlorine performance
Longer equipment lifespan
💡 Did You Know?
In hot climates like Lake Havasu, high water temperatures can drive up pH making muriatic acid even more important to keep things in check and avoid cloudy or scale-prone water.
